The opening lyrics to a song from “Charlotte’s Web” ring true.
“A fair is a veritable smorgasbord orgasbord orgasbord.”
Even though orgasbord may not actually be a real thing, the fair most likely has everything else. A little funnel cake, a little candied apple, some barbecue, a few shows, a few rides, throw in a little Elvis and it’s a grand old time to be had at the Stanly County Fair.
The fair opens today and continues through Monday, with a little something for everyone each day.
Not every county has a fair, so we should be proud and support our local fair.
It provides a little fun atmosphere. It offers an educational atmosphere for the young ones, to learn about the agriculture aspects and the competitions. It offers a chance for the older citizens to reminisce about fairs of the past and how today’s fair is different. Sure, today’s fair cannot offer some of the amenities that were available in yesteryear, but that doesn’t mean that just as good a time cannot be consumed by going one night, two nights or every night to the fair.
We’ll be there in support of the Bowers and everyone else who works to make the fair a success and we hope many Stanly Countians will turn out in support as well.
Now, where’s that candied apple?
