Tuesday, November 20, 2012 — Lyman O’Bryan Jones, 78, of Albemarle, passed away November 17, 2012, at CMC Northeast Medical Center, Concord.
His funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Union Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ross Tracy officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the hour of the service. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Monday, November 19, 2012, at Stanly Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.
Born Dec 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Lyman Jones and Annie Virginia Bland Jones.
His grandparents, aunts and uncles, especially Uncle Hazel and Aunt Fae Bullock, were instrumental in his upbringing. Their love, compassion, reliance on family and faith in God were the foundation of his life.
He attended Martin and Pitt County Schools and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1953 until 1956. Being a self-educated man, he achieved many goals in life.
Mr. Jones retired from three jobs during his life: first as a salesman with Bordon Dairy in Tampa, Fla.; second as the owner of Quick Stop in Kannapolis, N.C; and third as owner and operator of the Albemarle Flea Market in Albemarle.
He was a very kind, gentle and giving man and he touched and helped many lives along life’s journey. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Post 8989.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Sandra Faye Vandiford Jones, the love of his life. Other survivors include sons, Terry “T.O.” Jones of Albemarle and Chris Jones of Kannapolis; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and one great-grandson; as well as his four legged companion Queenie.
