Johnny Dale Burris, 66, of Oakboro, passed away, Thursday, January 31, 2013, at his home.
A celebration of life was at Red Cross Baptist Church on Sunday, February 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. with a 30 minute state prior to the service. Rev. Angela Burris and Rev. George Freeman officiated the worship service which concluded with a graveside burial in the church cemetery. Military honors were conducted by Stanly County, DAV, Chapter 12.
The family received friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the graveside. At other times the family will meet at his home.
Born December 3, 1946, in Stanly County, N.C., he is the son of the late Fred Burris and late Grace Tucker Burris. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Malcolm Tucker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Peggy Jo Smith Burris of the home; daughters, Angela Darlene Burris of Salisbury and McKenzie Anne Burris of Los Angeles, Calif.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam conflict. He retired from the Air National Guard after 21 years of service. He retired as supervisor from Piedmont Natural Gas after 44 years of service.
