Tuesday, January 29, 2013 — Mr. Joe DeWitt Kelly Jr., 52, of New London, N.C. passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 9:19 p.m. at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast.
His service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Poplin Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Carlisle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Born on April 11, 1960, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Joe DeWitt Kelly Sr. and Mattie Barringer Kelly.
Mr. Kelly graduated from North Stanly High School, attended N.C. State University and was an employee of McConnell Golf at the Old North State Club.
He was a member of Poplin Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. Mr. Kelly spent many years coaching North Stanly Youth football and baseball. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and gardening.
Mr. Kelly was married to Rhonda M. Kelly of the home. Other survivors include three sons, Josh Kelly of Albemarle, Jared Kelly of Charlotte and Jack Kelly of New London; and one sister, Mary Kelly of Wakefield, R.I.
One sister, Camilla Quinn, preceded him in death.
