Tuesday, January 29, 2013 — Elgie Russell Smith, 90, of Oakboro, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family.
The funeral service, officiated by Dr. Wayne Bennett, will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Thursday, January 31, 2013, at 4 p.m. with a 30 minute state prior to the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will gather with friends and family after the burial in the church fellowship hall until 6:30 p.m.
Friends and family are welcome to come by Hartsell Funeral Home anytime Thursday morning to pay their respects.
At other times the family will meet at the home of her son, Randy Smith and wife Debra.
Elgie was born on July 5, 1922, to the late Augustus Russell and the late Queen Victoria Davis Russell. She is also preceded in death by her husband in 2003, Henry Howard Smith; two brothers, Lillard and Odell Russell; and two sisters, Martha Russell and Blondell Barker.
She is survived by two sons, Lanny Smith and wife Patsy of Locust and Randy Smith and wife Debra of Oakboro; four grandchildren, E. Nicole Smith, Aaron Smith and wife Ashley, Alice Eudy and husband B.J. and Anna Lambert and husband Sean; and two great-grandchildren, Henry and Titus Smith.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Royer and his caring staff, Dr. Goli and Dr. Hinson and the staff on four south and SRMC for their compassionate care and the loving staff at Hospice of Stanly County.
