William Banks Ashe passed into the hands of the Lord on January 24, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2013 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. Rev. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Chris Wallace will officiate and burial will follow in Porter Baptist Church Cemetery, with military rites by the Stanly County DAV. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
Bill was born in McConnells, S.C. on July 16, 1920 to the late Leroy Banks and Mamie Therrel Ashe of York County, S.C.
Bill faced combat during WWII with the Army’s 78th Lighting Division, Company 309 Infantry for which he received a Bronze Star.
Mr. Ashe retired from Burrough’s Corporation’s Atlanta office in 1976 and continued to use his accounting skills in private practice. He and his wife, Florence, returned to Norwood in 1983, where Bill tended his family, pets and garden. He volunteered at the Albemarle Senior Center for over 20 years and helped family and friends with their tax and accounting questions. He was a member of Porter Baptist Church.
Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence Cooper Ashe of the home; sons, Bill Ashe, Jr. and wife Pat of Asheville and David Ashe of Norwood; his two sisters, Emily Herndon of Greensboro and Lib Strahan of Charlotte; along with many nieces and nephews.
