Thursday, October 25, 2012 — Judy Hatley Harris, 62, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away suddenly in a tragic motorcycle accident on October 22, 2012, while riding in the mountains of east Tennessee.
Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Albemarle, N.C. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, October 26, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Stanly Funeral Home in Albemarle, N.C.
Judy was born in Albemarle, N.C. on March 23, 1950. She graduated from South Stanly High School. She was married to Roger Harris on September 7, 1969; they were married 44 years.
Judy was recently retired and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, riding her motorcycle with her husband and the Southern Cruisers, and most of all spending Elvis week each year with her sister, Cherry.
Judy is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Paula Gray (Wes), Matthew Harris (Natalie), Daniel Harris (Laura); her seven grandchildren, Mahal, Skylaire, Raleigh, Spencer, and Alexus (fondly called Gracie by her grandparents); Damian and Miranda; her brothers, Ronnie Hatley (Sylvia), Gerald Hatley (Sheila), twin brother, Joel Hatley (Cathy), and her sister, Cherry McSwain (Thomas).
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Raeford and Ruby Hatley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Angie’s Amazing Race (care of Britt’s Motorsports, Wilmington, N.C).
