Thursday, October 11, 2012 — Prentiss Byron Whitley, 85, of Albemarle, N.C., went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, October 7, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 21, 1927, to the late Clifford Whitley and Lillie Morris Whitley.
He attended Albemarle City Schools and Southern Pilgrim College Theological Department, Kernersville, N.C. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre and was the former pastor of St. Paul Wesleyan Church, Gold Hill and Bethel Wesleyan Church, Kannapolis.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Juanita Hinson Whitley; brother, Bill Whitley; and son-in-law, Edward Morrison.
Mr. Whitley is survived by a son, Mike Whitley and his wife Christy of Norwood; daughter, Jan Morrison of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Steve Whitley of New London, Amy Cohen and husband Robert of Norwood and Marimarie Morrison of Kannapolis; three great-grandchildren; Riley, Julianna and Jake Cohen of Norwood; and a devoted sister, Marcelle Whitley of Albemarle.
The family will have a private graveside service on Saturday.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Bethel Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis. A visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. in Whitley Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Wesleyan Church of Kannapolis.
