Sunday, February 24, 2013 — Margaret Boyette Slack Lisenby, 86, of Norwood, died early Thursday morning, February 21, 2013, at Stanly Regional Medical Center.
A celebration of life was at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 208 Pee Dee Ave., Norwood, N.C. Rev. Doug Hochmuth officiated and burial followed in Norview Gardens. The family received friends, prior to the service, at 2 p.m., in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Lisenby was born April 23, 1926, in Mt. Gilead, N.C., to the late Enoch Crowell and Annie Blalock Shankle Slack.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Norwood, attended all her married life and brought her three children up in this church. All three remain members to this day.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her three sons and three grandsons. She raised her three sons while working full-time on third shift at Collins and Aikman in Norwood. She retired from Collins and Aikman after more than 20 years. She tirelessly cared for and enjoyed her three grandsons every afternoon after school for many years.
She loved to cook and was very good at it. She pleased her family consistently with favorites of quail pie and jack pies. She canned the harvest of her husband’s garden each year and made memorable pickles and preserves.
She was an expert seamstress; she loved to sew, quilt and knit, making each of her children and grandchildren clothing and special afghans.
She was a member of the Norwood “Busy Bees” Home Extension Club for many years. She loved her flower gardens and yard adorned with bird feeders. She would gaze out her windows and watch the birds for hours, especially her favorite red birds.
She and, Jimmie, her husband of almost 67 years were members of Piney Point Golf Club from its inception. She enjoyed playing golf with Jimmie and her friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry “Jimmie” Lisenby; brother, Jake Slack; and sisters, Sarah Ussery, Doll Talbert and Pat Story.
She is survived by her sons, James Richard Lisenby of Norwood, Terry Slack Lisenby and wife DeeDee of Charlotte and Robert Ivan Lisenby and wife Rowena of Norwood; three grandsons, James Milas Lisenby, Boett Mabry Lisenby and William Ivan Lisenby.
