Burlington – William Douglas Forrest Sr., age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Twin Lakes.
He was born in Greenville, S.C. to the late William Mitchell Forrest and Grace Vaughn Forrest. He was the husband of the late Virginia Bryant Forrest.
Doug retired after working for 30 years with JP Stevens and 10 years with Burlington Industries. He served his country in the Merchant Marines during WWII in the European Theatre.
Doug was a member and former Deacon of Holly Hill Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class.
Doug enjoyed the outdoors by fishing and playing golf and he was an avid sports fan. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his son, William Douglas Forrest Jr. and wife Ellen of Burlington; grandchildren, Julie F. and Bob Gilboe of Waterford, Mich. and Lisa F. and David Moore of Harrisburg, Penn.; great-granddaughter, Grace H. Moore; sister-in-law, Gwyn Forrest of Clearwater, Fla.; and a niece, Barbara D. Dycus of Rockingham, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Harold Mitchell Forrest and a sister, Elizabeth Belcher.
A memorial service to celebrate his life was on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the May-Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes by Father Mark Menees.
The family received friends immediately following the service and other times at his son’s home.
There will be a private entombment at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, S.C. on Monday and the body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory through the services.
