Sunday, November 18, 2012 — LILESVILLE – Mrs. Mary Virginia Bowman Dean, 90, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Lilesville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery.
The family greeted friends Saturday, November 17, 2012, from 4-6 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro, and other times at the home.
Mary Virginia was born March 24, 1922, in Anson County, N.C., a daughter of the late Thomas Robinson Bowman and the late Mary Sue King Bowman.
She was retired from Anson County Schools having worked as a teacher’s assistant at Lilesville Elementary School for 18 years.
She loved Lilesville and has served on the Lilesville Town Council and as Mayor Pro Tem. She was a life-long member of Lilesville United Methodist Church. Music was one of her great loves and she often played the piano for the nursing home residents in Anson County.
Surviving are her children, Gilbert C. (Frances) Dean Jr. of N. Charleston, S.C., James Dean, Carolyn (Nelson) Ingram and Ken Dean, all of Lilesville, Betty Jean (Don) Bowers of Norwood and Charles (special friend, Rita) Dean of Charleston, S.C.; her grandchildren, Trey Dean, Shannon Mizell, James Dean Jr., Stan Dean, Mike Ingram, Chad Bowers, Ryan Bowers, Meredith Howell, Erica Dean and Jessica Dean; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Frances Bowman of Lilesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert C. Dean; a grandson, Scottie Dean; an infant grandson; and by her only brother, King Bowman.
