Thursday, March 7, 2013 — Marshall Lee Whitley, 92, of Oakboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Stanly Regional Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 6-8 p.m.
The funeral service, officiated by Dr. Terrell Watts, will be held at First Baptist Church, Oakboro on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Smith’s Grove Primitives Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.
Marshall was born on March 10, 1920, to the late Benjamin Whitley and the late Lessie Whitley. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sarah Elizabeth Whitley in 2007.
He is survived by a son, Marshall Whitley, Jr. of Greenville, S.C.; a daughter, Cathy Veazey and husband Paul of Charlottes-ville, Va.; two granddaughters, Susan Grace Harris and husband Jay of Asheboro, and Lindsay Veazey of Maui, Hawaii.
Mr. Whitley served his county honorably in the Army during WWII. He was awarded 5 star battle recognition metals. He was a loyal member of First Baptist Church of Oakboro.
