High Point, N.C. – Rayemell Taylor Russell, 87, passed away February 22, 2013.
She was born August 11, 1925, in Guilford County, N.C., to the late Shelley and Ora Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce, Hazel and Barbara; husband, I.F. Russell Jr.; and her son, I.F. Russell III.
She grew up in Montgomery County (dearly loved growing up and going to school there) and graduated from Troy High School in 1943 and Jones Business College, High Point.
She worked as a telephone operator for Concord Telephone Co. and then the State Highway Dept. (Right-of-Way Division) and retired in 1986, after 37 years of service. She has lived in High Point the for the past five years, first at the Stratford and then Pennybyrn at Maryfield.
The loves of her life were her family, friends, music, laughter, Christmas, Eldorado and Troy, anything sweet, especially chocolate, (She was a wonderful cook!) and springtime.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon R. (Mike) Zidek of Jamestown; grandson, Christopher M. Zidek of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Frances (Carl) Owens, Virginia Brown and Faye Dunn; brother, Wayne (Glenda) Taylor; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Central United Methodist Church, Albemarle, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45 a.m. in the Snuggs Family Life Center at the church prior to service. Interment will be private.
Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Building Fund, 172 N. Second St., Albemarle, NC 28001 or Maryfield Charitable Care Fund, 1315 Greensboro Road, High Point, NC 27260.
A special thanks to her “special caregivers” at Pennybyrn and her devoted nieces, Ramona Tuttle.
