Sunday, February 24, 2013 — Roy Alvin Cope, 74, of Locust, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013, in his home.
His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Locust Presbyterian Church with Rev. Douglas Van Niel and Rev. Ron Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Presbyterian Church Cemetery with full military rites by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 25, 2013, at Stanly Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. where the body will remain until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the hour of the service.
Born Dec 20, 1938, in Hunker, Penn., he was the son of the late Fedorian M. Cope and Harriet DeArmitt-Shupe-Cope.
He was a retired employee of Michelin and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy with almost 12 years of service to his country.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Lynn Kimmel Cope. Other survivors include two sons, Roy Thomas Cope and wife Dari of Midland and William D. Cope of Locust; daughter, Michele Lynn Cope Boone and husband David of Albemarle; brother. Vernon Cope of Greensburg, Penn.; sister, Margaret Cope Lutz of Hunker, Penn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Brothers, John Frederick Cope and Ernest Cope; and half sisters, Mildred Ansell and Evelyn Young, preceded him in death.
The family requests that memorials be made to Locust Presbyterian Church, 607 W. Main St., Locust NC 28097 or to Pine Grove United Methodist Youth, 28766 N.C. 24/27, Albemarle NC 28001.
