Wednesday, November 14, 2012 —
Ralph ‘Ray’ Poplin, age 73, of Norwood, N.C., died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012, in his home.
His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, Norwood, N.C. Rev. Mike Burris and Rev. Marilyn Wooten will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home, Albemarle, on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, from 6-8 p.m.
Born October 5, 1939, in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late Willie Bryant and Virginia Pearl Mabry Poplin.
He was a graduate of Aquadale High School and a retired employee of the N.C. Department of Transportation.
He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cattle farming, gardening, hunting and following the Atlanta Braves and Duke basketball.
Mr. Poplin was married to Brenda Burris Poplin of the home.
Other survivors include one son, Danny Ray Poplin and wife Julie of Norwood, N.C.; two daughters, Tammy Lynn Poplin of Norwood, N.C. and Lauren Suzanne Poplin of Matthews, N.C.; three brothers, Bryce Poplin, John Poplin and Rodney Poplin, all of Norwood, N.C.; two sisters, Faye Pope of Norwood, N.C. and Dianne Howell of Greenville, N.C.; and two grandchildren, D.J. Poplin and Presley Poplin.
One brother, Max Poplin, and two sisters, Marie Huneycutt and Betty Jean Poplin, preceded him in death.
