Tuesday, February 19, 2013 — James Howard Carter, 76, of New London, passed away at 1:25 p.m. on Monday February 18, 2013, at his home.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday February 20, 2013, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Almond presiding. Burial will follow in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military rites by the Stanly County DAV Ritual Team.
The family received friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, February 19, 2013, from 6-8 p.m.
Born October 1, 1936, in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late Charlie Allen Carter and Mattie Opal Carter.
He was a retired employee of E.J. Snyder with 37 years of service. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Open Door Baptist Church.
His wife, Alene Smith Carter, preceded him in death on May 14, 2002.
Survivors include five daughters, Debbie Tucker and Marilyn Morgan, both of Richfield, Becky Baily and Donna Weatherhold, both of New London and Helen Morgan of Gold Hill; two brothers, Clifton Carter and Wade Carter, both of New London; sister, Judy Swaringen of New London; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 533 S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC 27203.
