Thursday, February 7, 2013 — Vaden “Chub” Malcolm Springer Sr., age 75, of Richfield, died at 12:03 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2013, in his home.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at Highland Baptist Church, New London. Rev. Mike Madaris and Rev. Jessie Dennis officiated and burial was in Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church Cemetery.
There was no formal visitation.
Born April 4, 1937, in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late Richard Sherman and Velma Pauline Burris Springer.
He was a retired employee of Oakwood Homes of Richfield. He was a very active member of Highland Baptist Church, New London. He was an avid fisherman and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Springer was married to Zelia Leonard Springer of the home. Other survivors include one son, Vaden Springer Jr. and wife Sandra of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; two daughters, Cathy Sherrill and husband Mike of Mt. Ulla, N.C. and Kristi Laton and husband Gary of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; one brother, Richard L. Springer of Lexington, N.C.; one sister, Jeannette S. Hopkins of Albemarle, N.C.; three grandchildren, Sgt. Christopher Sherrill of Jacksonville, N.C., Pressley Laton and Taylor Springer, both of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Micah Sherrill and Zachary Sherrill.
One sister, Bennie S. Frick, preceded him in death.
