DENTON – Mrs. Vergie Earnhardt Benner, age 93, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of Finch Street, Denton, died Thursday morning at the health park.
A private memorial service will be at a later date.
A child of Adam Eugene Earnhardt and Bessie Evalene Cagle Earnhardt, Vergie was born November 8, 1919, and raised in Stanly County.
She operated Vergie’s Beauty Salon in Denton for many years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and had opened her home to several student pastors serving the church during the summer. She was a second mother to Jennifer Allen and Laura and Hannah Myers for many years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond E. Burleson and second husband, Paul Benner.
Mrs. Benner is survived by sons, Raymond E. Burleson Jr. of Oak Island and John R. Burleson of Greensboro; daughters, Barbara Bailey of Fuquay Varina and Dian Deal of Faith; brother, Gene Earnhardt of Charlotte; and sister, Mabel Drye of Virginia; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
