Harold Hanford Swaringen, 88, of Norwood, passed away Thursday morning, October 4, 2012, at his home.
Funeral services was at 3 p.m., Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Silver Springs Baptist Church.Rev. Mark Little officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday evening, October 6, 2012, at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
Mr. Swaringen was born October 21, 1923, in Stanly County to the late Robert Lee and Minnie Russell Swaringen.
He was a retired License Examiner of N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles and was also employed by E.B. Stone Finance Company. He was a faithful member of Silver Springs Baptist Church where he had been a member since August 21, 1937. He had served as church Deacon and Clerk of the Church. He was a member of Albemarle Lodge 703 and a 32nd Degree Shriner. He was a Navy Veteran having served in WWII.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Smith Swaringen.
Mr. Swaringen is survived by his son, Tommy Swaringen and wife Martha of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; two grandsons, Todd Swaringen and wife Sherri of Norwood, Chad Swaringen and wife Amanda of Charlotte; three great-grandchildren, Jobey Swaringen, Mylee Swaringen and Averly Swaringen and close and special friend, Cropsy Burgess of Norwood.
