Phyllis Covington Snuggs, 75, of Norwood, died at 6:02 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, in Stanly Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Randall United Methodist Church in Norwood with The Rev. Gene Moore officiating. Burial was in Randall United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born Nov. 16, 1937 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Alva Leonard Covington and Mable Miller Covington.
She was a graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Pfeiffer University and Emory University, where she received her FNP certification.
She was the founder and a teacher of the nursing program at Stanly Community College and was a retired nurse practitioner.
She was a member of Randall United Methodist Church of Norwood and was a member of the Stanly County Choral Association, Central United Methodist Church Choir and Randall United Methodist Church Choir.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin Hoyle Snuggs of the home; three sons, Edwin Leonard Snuggs and wife, Cindy, of Faith, Eric Hoyle Snuggs and wife, Leigh, of Norwood, and Erin Phillip Snuggs and wife, Kristy, of Wendell; and a brother, Bill Covington of Rockwell.
Memorials may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Albemarle Office, 32252 N.C. 24-27, Albemarle, NC 28001; Randall United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 48144 Randall Road, Norwood, NC 28128; or Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
