Thursday, November 29, 2012 — Rossie Barfield, 79, of Norwood, passed away Monday afternoon, November 26, 2012, following a car accident on his way to church, Sunday, November 11, 2012.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012, at South Stanly Baptist Church. Rev. Nathan Fox officiated and burial followed in Norview Gardens. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Edwards Funeral Home in Norwood.
Mr. Barfield was born November 22, 1933, in Columbus County to the late Carl Grady Barfield Sr. and Cora Fairfax Barfield.
He was founder of M&R Retreading in Norwood from which he retired. He was a member of South Stanly Baptist Church. Rossie enjoyed fishing at the beach and raising cattle on his farm.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Blalock Barfield, who passed away in 2009; a son, Kenny Barfield; grandson, Cameron Barfield; and four brothers, Wilton, Foster, Gene and Riley Barfield.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Harkey Barfield of the home; sons, Mickey Barfield and wife Sue of Badin, Ronnie Barfield and Reggie Barfield and wife Stacy, all of Norwood; brother, Grady Barfield Jr. of Asheboro; sisters, Mildred Cooper of Asheboro and Dorothy Comer of Greensboro; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
