Doris Smith Outen, 74, of Matthews went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 24, 2013.
Celebration of life services will be held 2 p.m. Monday January 28, 2013 at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Sharon Memorial Park.
Doris was born August 19, 1938 in Albemarle, NC to G.W. “Bud” and Mary Russell Smith. She was a graduate of Albemarle High and Kings College.
She was the owner and operator of Matthews Pottery.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Kenneth Outen.
Doris is survived by a daughter, Sheri O. Holmes and husband Wesley, four sons, Michael, David, Darren, Bryan, 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister, Vivian Lowder of Tampa, Fla. and a brother, Nelson Smith of Spartanburg, S.C.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Outen’s honor to Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Building Fund, 3316 Pleasant Plains Road, Matthews, NC 28105.
