Carolyn Byrd Dorsey, 72, of Badin died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at her home.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 27, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. Rev. Wes Judy officiated and burial followed in Stanly Gardens. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Carolyn was born February 11, 1940 in Norwood and was a daughter of the late Edwin Oscar and Bertha Shankle Byrd. She was a retiree of Stanly County Schools, having served as a teacher’s assistant at Badin Elementary School. She was a member of Badin Presbyterian Church and a member of the Stanly County Senior Center and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.
Carolyn had a great love of family especially her grandchildren and sharing family history and genealogies, instilling in future generations the importance of family. Carolyn had a great circle of friends she loved spending time with playing cards and games and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Ronald Dorsey Sr.; two brothers Charlie Van “Moe” Byrd Sr., Dr. Edwin Oscar Byrd Jr., and a sister Betty Jean Byrd.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Melissa Dorsey, her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Sandy Rachels and her grandchildren, Kyle and Caitlyn Dorsey, all of Badin; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Franklin and Jo Byrd and Tony and Donna Byrd, all of Marietta, Georgia. Also surviving are her special in laws, Bruce Dorsey of Oakboro, Curt and Peggy Dorsey of Badin and Donna Sue Lucas of Norwood.
Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Senior Center, 283 N. Third Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
