James Otto Austin, 78, of Mooresville, passed away on January 7, 2013, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
He was born on April 8, 1934, in Union County, N.C. to Clyde Charles and Ruby Mae Hinson Austin.
James was a member of Wiggins Road Baptist Church of Mooresville and served as a deacon, head usher, church hospitality committee, along with his wife chaired the Senior’s Group, “The Golden Heirs.”
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, attended Kings Business College in Concord and worked at Harris Teeter and General Times.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Donnie Austin.
He is survived by his wife, June Suther Austin; children, Kellie A. Rounds and husband Theodore of Montrose, Pa. and James O. “Sonny” Austin Jr. and wife Sheila of Lincolnton; sisters, Helen Helms and husband Clinton of Locust, N.C., Carol Davis of Anderson, S.C., Elaine Boswell and husband Jerry of Monroe, N.C.; and brother, Mike Austin and wife Vivian.
The family received friends on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services were on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Wiggins Road Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Abee and Rev. Dale Gallimore officiating. Interment followed at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wiggins Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 188 Wiggins Road, Mooresville, NC 28115.
