Thursday, September 20, 2012 — Fred Norman Sides, age 84, of Albemarle, N.C., died Tuesday, September 18, 2012, in his home.
His graveside service was at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Salem United Methodist Church. Rev. Joe Smith officiated and burial was in the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 1-2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Stanly Funeral Home prior to the hour of the service.
Born February 14, 1928 in Stanly County, N.C., he was the son of the late John Q. Sides Sr. and Ollie Hatley Sides.
He was educated at Albemarle High School. He was owner and operator of Music Mart in Albemarle and Kannapolis.
He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Mr. Sides was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He loved the music business and he enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Sides was married to Frances Eagle Sides. Other survivors include one son, Fred Michael Sides of Albemarle; one daughter, Janice Sides Poplin and husband Phillip of Albemarle; and two grandchildren, Sara Sides Poplin and Brynn Efird Poplin.
Two brothers, Myron Sides and John Q. Sides Jr., preceded him in death.
