Capt. David E. Dulin said that Albemarle Police Department has received multiple reports of counterfeit money being used within the city.
“We’ve had numerous accounts of forfeit 100s 50s and 20s (dollar bills),” he said.
Dulin said they have contacted other agencies to find out what the department can do, but has heard that counterfeit money is being found in multiple locations outside the city.
He said the department has tried to interview those who have found counterfeit money, and in many cases they claim it was received as part of their change in transactions done at local banks.
“We’re trying to nail it down where it’s coming from,” Dulin said.
Anyone with more information on where counterfeit money is being manufactured or exchanged is asked to call Albemarle Police Department at (704) 984-9500 and notify an officer as soon as possible.
