The Village of Misenheimer met on Monday for its monthly meeting.
The top concern of that night was an update on the Carolina Thread Trail Corridor that runs through Misenheimer.
According to their website, the Carolina Thread Trail is a series of greenways and trails that spans across 15 different counties and links 2.3 million people. There are 98 miles of the trail open to the public.
The Carolina Thread Trail project that was started in September of last year is an effort to connect the communities of Misenheimer, Richfield and New London.
The council received a report on the Thread Trail from Stewart Engineering and reviewed it at the meeting Monday. The study was designed to provide construction options for the council to discuss.
Mayor Michael Riemann went over a map of the region, discussing alternate routes for the trail. Depending on the route, the price for the Thread Trail can change dramatically. Building over water and crafting bridges adds extra cost to the project.
“We have a tentative high and low cost for trail construction,” Village Administrator Pam Humphrey said.
“At the low ends we’re looking at $545,403. The high cost would be $1,551,115.”
“The next step is picking a final route for the Thread Trail and working with land owners to acquire rights to build on the property,” Humphrey said.
“We’re also looking for additional grant opportunities to fund the project.”
Another concern of the evening was the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that has been made available to Stanly County.
Through the NC Department of Commerce Office of Community Development, funds for low to moderate income families have become available for suitable housing.
The county is making inquiries with all of its municipalities as to whether they wish to participate in this program that will provide Scattered Site Housing for residents of Stanly.
Misenheimer officials signed a certificate of intent saying they were interested in receiving funding from the program.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 12.
