Stop by the Stanly County Chapter of the American Red Cross, covering Montgomery and Stanly counties, office anytime 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, to sign a card for a hero, 243 W. Main St., Albemarle.
Also, if anyone knows of a group, church, etc., that would like to make or sign cards, let the Red Cross know by calling (704) 982-0070.
Serving members of the military, veterans and their families has been a cornerstone of the American Red Cross mission since Clara Barton began her humanitarian aid work on the battlefields of the Civil War.
Service to the Armed Forces continues to remain central to the mission today as the Red Cross provides comfort and care to the service men and women who sacrifice to ensure our nation’s freedom.
In an effort to increase awareness of the entire Red Cross mission, the 2012 Holiday Mail for Heroes program is being combined with the Red Cross Holiday Campaign. The campaign encourages Americans to give meaningful gifts during the holiday giving season, whether those gifts are inspirational holiday cards for the brave men and women serving our country, life-saving blood donations or volunteering to help those in need.
Holiday Mail for Heroes will be partnered with Biomedical Services and Holiday Giving in a single program, empowering people to “Give Something that Means Something.”
Over the last five years, the Holiday Mail for Heroes program has collected more than four million cards filled with messages of gratitude, encouragement and holiday greetings from the American public for members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Through partnership with Pitney Bowes, the Red Cross collects, screens, sorts and distributes holiday cards to American soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, veterans and military families in communities nationwide and on military installations around the world.
This year’s program began Oct. 1 when the national post office box opens to the public. All cards must be postmarked no later than Dec. 7. Any cards received after this date cannot be guaranteed delivery before Dec. 31. The Holiday Mail program will run through Jan. 31, 2013 to allow time for all cards to be distributed.

Community joins for Day of Prayer

The UPS Store joins Chamber of Commerce
