Thursday, November 26, 2009 — Stanly Community College’s (SCC) Small Business Center (SBC) and the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce are accepting nominations for the 2009 Small Business of the Year Award.
“The Stanly County Chamber of Commerce is honored that Stanly Community College is again sponsoring our Small Business of the Year Award. We recognize that the majority of the businesses in our county are classified as small business and it is always enlightening to see them recognized for their tenacity, motivation, and entrepreneurship. This award, and other partnerships that we have created with SCC’s Small Business Center, have been most beneficial in enhancing economic development in Stanly County,” Tom Ramseur, president and CEO of Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, said.
The Small Business of the Year Award will be presented at the 2010 Stanly County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 14, 2010, at Stanly Regional Medical Center. Keynote speaker will be Erskine Bowles, president, University of NC System.
Tickets to the annual meeting may be obtained by contacting the Chamber. Each finalist will be recognized during the evening with one business being selected as the overall Small Business of the Year.
All businesses with 50 or fewer employees are eligible to apply or be nominated. All applicants must be current members of the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce to be eligible. Criteria for judging will be based upon the following: Stability & Growth; Innovation; Response to Challenge; and Community Service.
Business owners, employees, customers, or clients are eligible to submit nominations. Business owners are encouraged to submit their applications to the Chamber or SCC’s Small Business Center; self nomination is encouraged.
SCC President Dr. Michael Taylor said, “We value the significant contributions that small businesses make to our community and economy. They are vital in creating jobs, new markets, and new products. SCC is grateful to be part of the 2009 Small Business of the Year Award.”
