Sunday, November 22, 2009 — After pursuing a life-long passion of medicine, Dr. Jenny Hinson is proud to be in her native county, working in the profession she enjoys a great deal.
“I feel really lucky to be able to do what I’ve always wanted to do,” said Hinson, a native of the Porter community near Norwood. For the past five years, she has worked on and off as an emergency room physician at Stanly Regional Medical Center, and is primarily responsible for staffing the ER for patient care. Part of her time over the last five years was spent in England with her husband, Kevin Taylor while he earned his Ph.D.
Hinson spent two years at South Stanly High School before transferring to the N.C. School of Science and Math. After graduating, she matriculated through Wake Forest University, then to East Carolina University for medical school. She completed her residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
“I believe it’s a gift,” said Hinson of her ability to work in the medical profession. “There is a lot of satisfaction in helping to heal someone in distress and bringing relief to their situation,” she said. The satisfaction of being able to work where she grew up is equally gratifying to Hinson, as she often provides care for someone who helped her while growing up.
Spending time with her two children and her husband, along with reading cooking, listening to music and traveling are amongst Hinson’s favorite things to do in her native Stanly County. She hopes the future allows her to pursue writing and exploring the possibilities of public health and volunteer.
