Larry McGuire was recently named president of the Central Carolina Association of Realtors for the 2013 year. The group covers Stanly, Montgomery and Cabarrus counties
“He was nominated by the membership and elected to this position,” said Jane MacRae, executive officer fot the Central Carolina Association of Realtors.
“Each year the nominating committee for our association sends out a message to the membership that it is time for nominations for the next year. As the nominations come in, the board votes on them.
“He will serve one year as president,” said MacRae, though she noted McGuire has been on the baord of directors for the past three years.
“He will actually be the lead decision maker in our daily processes and he will be our spokesperson to the public, as well. Anytime a topic comes up and you want to know what the realtors think of it, you can call Larry. He’s our spokesperson.
“His most important job is to represent the membership association to the public, whether it be a speaking arrangement or with the press.”
MacRae explained what the Central Carolina Association of Realtors does.
“We are a trade asscoation for the realtors in our area. We are the local branch of the National Association of Realtors.
“Our main focus is public awareness and education.
“Let’s say that Congress has an issue wth the fiscal cliff. It will affect mortgages and private propety rights.
“The National Association of Realtors has a member there to speak on our behalf.
“If a bill comes through or is proposed that threatens that in some way, for private propety rights, we will fight that.
“It’s very much an advocate for private property rights in this country.
“We are the organization that represents over 400 realtors in our county area.”
She explained the difference between a real estate agent and a realtor.
“We represent real estate agents in the area who are in our association. Being a realtor is a cut above, it is a designation of significance in our organization.
“When you get your license from the state of North Carolina to sell real estate, you will be a licensed real estate agent.
“You have to join a realtors association in order to gain that title.”
MacRae explained all of the qualifications one needs to be the president of the Central Carolina Associa-tion of Realtors.
“There are a number of things that are required in order to hold a leadershp position,” she said.
“First is to be a realtor in good standing with our assocaition and nationally.
“Second, one must have attended classes throughout his career to increase knowledge of real estate.
“Third, one must be in good standing with the community, having served with other boards and on community projects.”
“It’s an honor to represent my fellow realtors in Stanly and the surrounding counties,” McGuire said.
