APD makes arrests for counterfeit bills

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 — Since November, Albemarle Police Department has received many reports of counterfeit money being passed inside the city of Albemarle. Albemarle Police Department has reached out to other agencies and has gained a great amount of knowledge in the field of counterfeit currency.

On Jan. 27, Albemarle Police received a report of counterfeit money attempting to be passed at the Corner Super Market at 1105 W. Main St. Officers arrived and questioned a person and found in his possession a counterfeit $20 bill. Officer Tim Hartsell arrested Daniel Thomas Sanders, 22, of 1112 Efird St. Sanders was charged with possession of counterfeit instrument/currency and with attempting to obtain property by false pretense because he entered Corner Super Market and attempted to purchase a small amount of items with a counterfeit $20. The clerk at the Corner Supermarket spotted the fraudulent currency and refused to take the bill and called police, a report indicated. Sanders’ bond was set at $5,000 and his court date will be Feb. 18.

Heather Rae Poplin, 31, of 37668 Mills Road, New London, was arrested and charged with possession of more than five counterfeit iånstruments on Jan. 30. Poplin received a $4,000 secured bond and has a court date of Feb. 11, the police department reported.

    Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets.
