Chief promotes Bowen

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 — The Albemarle Police Department has announced its new assistant chief, who will be filling the position made vacant when Ted Smith took the director of security position with Stanly Community College in January.

Danny Bowen, who previously served as captain with the department, was selected as the new assistant chief.

“Assistant Chief Bowen did an excellent job throughout the selection process. He is very loyal to the department,” Chief William Halliburton said.

“While it will be difficult to find someone to fill his position, his expertise will still be with us and he will be involved in training the new captain.”

Bowen has served with the Albemarle Police Department for 21 years. His most recent job duties included ensuring all officers maintained their training and assisting with the accreditation process.

“Assistant Chief Bowen was involved in the accreditation process for nearly 10 years. He was very much the backbone of the process,” Halliburton said, adding that the department’s accreditation is important to the city.
