The city of Albemarle had a discharge of approximately 50,000 gallons of secondary treated wastewater from the Long Creek Waste-water Treatment Plant at 1040 Coble Ave., Albemarle. The discharge occurred between Aug. 19-20, between the hours of 11:10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The secondary treated wastewater entered Little Long Creek. The cause of the discharge was due to heavy rains and an unknown engineered weir overflow. The city of Albemarle will keep in place a 6” and a 8” pump to divert the overflow into the contact chamber until permanent repairs are made.
