Thursday, February 4, 2010 — The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 520 elected their officers for the 2009-2010 year. They are as follows:
• President Dianne Morgan;
• Vice President Kathy Johnson;
• Secretary/Treasurer Renee Turner;
• Historian Jewel Faggart; and
• Chaplain Nancy Burleson.
The unit meets the first Thursday of each month at the VFW Post 2908 on Anderson Road in Albemarle at 6 p.m. for supper and a meeting at 7 p.m.
Nationally, the Auxiliary sponsors volunteer programs on the national and local levels, focusing on three major areas: veterans, young people and the community.
The organization has conceived and implemented hundred of programs for veterans, their families, young people and the community, which include programs such as Girls State and Girls Nation.
In addition, the Auxiliary works with organizations such as Children’s Miracle Network, Fisher House and the Red Cross.
