Sheriff’s Office arrests Cabarrus man for financial card theft, fraud

Monday, January 7, 2013 — A Kannapolis man has been charged with four felony counts involving financial card theft and fraud.

Matthew Taylor Childress, 21, 1218 Northside St., Kannapolis, was arrested and charged with one felony count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, one misdemeanor count of larceny, one misdemeanor count of injury to personal property, one felony count of financial card theft, one felony count of financial card fraud and one felony count of financial identity theft.

Warrents for Childress’ arrest came after the victim reported that someone had broken into their vehicle that was parked at a public boating access located inside Stanly County.

The victim reported that during the incident, a pocketbook along with other items were stolen from inside the vehicle.

Deputies with the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation and were able to obtain the arrest warrents and arrested Childress on Nov. 23.

He was processed into the Stanly County Detention Facility and given a $5,000 secured bond.

His court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 7.
