Thursday, December 7, 2006 — South Stanly linebacker Greg Biles is the Stanly County Defensive Player of the Year.
After returning from early season injury, Biles made numerous big defensive plays down the stretch in leading the Rebel Bulls to the third round of the state playoffs.
Biles is joined on the 2006 All-County Defen-sive Team by six other seniors, three juniors and one sophomore.
At linebacker, Biles is joined by his Rebel Bulls teammate senior Derek Lambert, Albemarle senior Daniel Tucker, and North Stanly junior Barry Chapman.
The defensive front is led by the West Stanly tandem of senior Daniel Lambert and junior Ernest Bridges, who were the run stoppers for the Colts and keys to West advancing to the second round of the state playoffs.
Joining the pair in the trenches are Albemarle sophomore Steven Branch and South Stanly senior Marcus Sellars.
In the defensive backfield, Colts junior Marquis Brown, Comets senior Jeremy Shaver and Rebel Bulls senior Aaron Thompson are three good cover men and excellent tacklers.
North Stanly sophomore Wes Carter is our punter while West Stanly senior George Leppard was the county’s most consistent PAT kicker.
