Sunday, September 21, 2008 — The second Saturday in October will mark the first event hosted by Locust Town Center Merchants Association.
The group has organized a Mystery Festival, which will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 11 in Locust Town Centre.
“The association has co-sponsored several events, but they wanted at least one annual event that was sponsored by them,” said Lisa Watts, event coordinator.
At the event, vendors will be stationed along the loop in the middle of Town Centre, and visitors will be able to stop at each vendor and ask questions to obtain clues.
This will be done after the individuals, or groups, have first visited the registration desk on the steps of Home Savings Bank, where they obtain the storyline.
After visiting each vendor and getting a clue, the guests have the chance to guess the answer to the clues and solve the mystery of the lost treasure of Locust Level.
After 4 p.m. the winning entries will be drawn to receive prizes such as a $200 savings bond, gift certificates or other prizes.
“Mystery is a fun thing that families can even enjoy and this is something that can be expanded on year after year,” Watts said.
Watts also said much of the information in the clues will come from the actual history of Locust.
Parking for the event will be available along Ray Kennedy Drive and Market Street, as well as in the various parking lots around the area. The loop around the middle of Town Centre will be the only area blocked off.
Watts is seeking vendors for the event to line this loop. She asks for all who are interested to contact her at (704) 239-3872 or requestinfo@weststanlync.com for an application.
The deadline to turn in these applications is Oct. 8. There is a $20 fee to be a vendor and any organization is invited, including churches, businesses, politicians and others.
Locust Town Center Merchants Association is approximately a year old and has spent much of the year planning and researching this event.
Watts asks that all who are interested come out and support this organization and have fun doing so.
“This is a great event for individuals to do or for families to do together because it’s good for the whole family,” Watts said.
