Sunday, August 10, 2008 — Students recently completed the Basic Law Enforce-ment Training (BLET) program at Stanly Community College (SCC). The BLET certification program is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county or municipal governments, or with private enterprises.

To be eligible for the program, participants must possess a high school diploma or GED, be at least 20 years old, must obtain a certified record check, have no felony convictions, and obtain sponsorship from a North Carolina law enforcement agency.

Students entering the Basic Law Enforcement Training program must meet standards as indicated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Standards and the North Carolina Sheriff’s Standards Division of the North Carolina Department of Justice.

Successful graduates re-ceive a curriculum certificate and are qualified to take certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and/or the North Carolina Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission.
