Teenagers charged in ATV crash

Tuesday, July 25, 2006 — Drugs and booze played a role as three teens crashed a four-wheeler they were riding Sunday night in Stanfield.

The 17-year-olds, one female and two males, were traveling down Elm Street toward Big Lick Road from the direction of Locust.

When Elm dead ended the teens kept traveling into the field where they lost control and were all thrown from the vehicle.

Both the driver and female were charged and taken to Stanly Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and released to guardians.

The other male passenger was cited on scene and released to guardians.

The driver’s charges include DWI, failure to stop at a stop sign, careless and reckless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The other male passenger was charged with possession of marijuana and associated paraphernalia and possession of alcohol underage.

Underage possession of alcohol was the female’s only charge.
