Tuesday, July 17, 2007 — The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary unit is looking for more volunteers to keep flotilla in the water.
Flotilla Staff Officer (FSO), John Wayne Martin, has been trying to recruit new members to patrol Badin Lake and Lake Tillery. If his flotilla does not obtain more members, they may be disbanded.
“We want to have enough to start another flotilla as well as cover our own,” Martin said.
The Auxiliary unit participates in search and rescue and is able to perform boat inspections for those who would like their boat to be brought to regulation. Each new member will receive training and will be encouraged to take classes in order to increase their knowledge of the every aspect of a flotilla.
“We want you to do everything,” Martin said.
In addition to the daily job-related activities, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary also goes on war maneuvers with the Army in order to provide training for themselves and members of the Army.
Any individual interested in joining the auxiliary team will go through an intense background investigation and pay a $25 membership fee per year.
Members have the opportunity to work for a higher rank in the division, which means an increase in responsibility.
“If you love the water, this is what you want to get into,” Martin said.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary comes under the Department of Homeland Security.
If interested, contact John Wayne Martin at (704) 322-6375.
