Sunday, June 17, 2007 — Representatives of Jim’s Custom Windows Inc. and Uwharrie Pool and Spa contacted city council members last year to discuss the cost of city business licenses. Once again, the topic appears in the agenda to be discussed during Monday’s Albemarle City Council meeting.
Jonathan Misenheimer, revenue/collections supervisor for the city of Albemarle, said in a memo to the mayor and councilmembers that NCGS 105-105 says any person, firm or corporation engaged in more than one business, trade, employment or profession shall pay the license tax prescribed in this Article for each separate business, trade, employment or profession.
He said many businesses in the city have multiple licenses for their business and that Jim’s Custom Windows Inc. and Uwharrie Pool and Spa have been licensed the same way.
Other news that will be covered in the meeting includes:
• A possible 2.5 percent pay increase for city employees that will be based on one motion, second and a vote.
• Condemnation of abandoned dwellings at 313 Old Charlotte Road and 122 Summit Ave.
• Consider proposals from Municipal Engineering Services Company, P.A. and Chambers Engineering, P.A. for engineering services for the Alfred Street Community Development Block Grant (CDBC).
• Changes to the City’s Noise Ordinance after complaints of loud dogs in neighborhoods and loud music in cars.
• Donation of surplus furniture and miscellaneous items to be donated to Habitat For Humanity.
• A request for a renewal of the franchise for B&G; Taxi.
