Tuesday, February 2, 2010 — The annual Stanly County Prays community-wide prayer service, sponsored by local churches and the Stanly County Family YMCA, raised more than $5,650 for four charitable causes in Stanly County.
The event was held Jan. 24 at the Stanly County Agri Civic Center, with approximately 400 citizens attending.
“Stanly County is fortunate to have many worthwhile Christian-minded charities in our community for citizens to turn to in tough economic times,” said Stephen Aldridge, co-chairman of the event.
This year’s proceeds were pledged to four of those groups and included Angel Food Ministries, located at Full Gospel Mission Church and Norwood Church of the Nazarene, Community Inn for the homeless, Stanly Community Christian Ministry and Pregnancy Resource Center of Stanly County.
“These ministries are true life lines for the people of our community. We are blessed by their efforts and pleased to distribute donations from our event to these fine organizations,” he said.
“Citizens attending the Stanly Prays service did more than just pray for the people of our community, they gave from the heart to help those in need.
“Recognizing the many Christian denominations in Stanly County and our common, deeply rooted faith in God, the mission of Stanly County Prays is to bring our community together across denominational lines to pray for our common needs as well as the most pressing needs of Stanly County, our state and our nation.”
