A Stanly County landscaping company took first place in a landscaping show recently.
Bushwackers Landscaping, located off Millingport Road in Richfield, took first place for Most Beautiful Garden design at the Greater Charlotte Home and Landscape Show at Cabarrus Arena Jan. 25-27.
Buckwackers is owned by Chad and Rebecca Little and has 18 employees. Little said at least 12 of those employees had a part in constructing the garden at the show that took the top prize.
“Three of us put the design together and tried to make it simple. We just wanted to have something that was simple and attract people with the colors,” Little said.
Their garden featured four stone columns, with raised retaining walls. In the backdrop, they had a waterfall set by a green giant plant that allowed for a natural setting.
“Our garden consisted of a natural waterfall surrounded by blooming tulips, daffodils, spirea, hydrangea, winter daphne and azaleas,” said Diana McCarn, who had a role in the design phase.
“In our design we incorporated hardscape walls and a paver walkway with landscape lighting as an accent.”
The design was received well by judges and show guests alike, as Little said they have already received about 50 calls from potential customers that they will follow up with by appointment.
Bushwackers is set to compete in another event, the Southern Spring Home and Garden Show in February as one of less than 15 competitors from North or South Carolina.
Their winning garden at the Greater Charlotte Home and Landscape Show would be valued at about $14,000, but Little said that they’re not only interested in clients who are looking for big jobs.
“We come meet with them and we’ll put a plan together and present the plan to them, and then let them decide what they want from there,” he said.
“We’ll do big or small.”
