On Oct. 25, Esther House will have a ceremony to remember the lives lost due to domestic violence in North Carolina.
Join us at the YMCA Park at 6 p.m. as we remember the dead and celebrate those lives that have been saved from injury or death which is often a consequence of the horrific reality that society has labeled domestic violence.
The often untold problem of domestic violence, which affects millions of women in the United States, is the number one cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44. This is more than injury caused by car accidents, muggings and sexual assaults combined. This works out to about one woman being beaten by her husband or partner every 15 seconds, and approximately one out of four women will have experienced some form of domestic abuse in her lifetime.
In addition to being beaten, approximately 17,000 women are killed each year by their intimate partner or husband.
President Obama signed a proclamation on Oct. 1, 2012, declaring October as domestic violence awareness month again this year. The first domestic violence awareness month was declared in 1987 and every year since.
In his presidential proclamation he stated, “While government must do its part, all Americans can play a role in ending domestic violence. Each of us can promote healthy relationships, speak out when we see injustice in our communities, stand with survivors we know and change attitudes that perpetuate the cycle of abuse. We must also ensure that survivors of domestic violence know they are not alone, and that there are resources available to them.”
Stanly County has joined the fight against this travesty and we invite all our friends and neighbors to join Esther House and its supporters as we take a stand against domestic violence and remember those who have lost their lives in North Carolina.

Safe Kids Stanly County offers safety tips for land, water
In honor of National Kids Safety Day, Safe Kids Stanly County had a Safe Kids Day Saturday morning in front of All 4 Fun Inflatables in Albemarle. Community joins for Day of Prayer
