Stanfield gets positive reports on Fall Festival events

Monday, November 5, 2012 — Stanfield's Board of Commissioners was pleased to report another successful Fall Festival this year at the meeting Thursday evening.

“A few years ago we came up with the idea as a way to give back to the community,” said Police Chief Jimmy Schneider.

Previously, Stanfield had an event in the summer, but it was too hot. The Fall Festival provided them with a more comfortable time of year to have a town celebration and helped to alleviate a lot of the problems that occur around Halloween.

“We came up with the idea of doing something in a controlled environment. It provides the parents with an opportunity to get out of the car and not have to keep getting back in. Also, it gives us a safe place for the kids to trick-or-treat,” said Chief Schneider.

The idea for the Fall Festival originated with Chief Schneider, but the town administration and staff are responsible for helping to make the event a true success.

The event was free and provided fun, food and entertainment for all ages. In addition to a trunk-or-treat, the Fall Festival also had a maze, hay rides, a bounce castle and even a costume contest.

In honor of all of the hard work and dedication that went into the Fall Festival, the board of commissioners voted to give the town staff a half-day off the Wednesday before the Thanksgiving Day weekend to say thanks.

In other Stanfield news, the board approved the purchase of a $100,000 CD (certificate of deposit) at a 1 percent interest rate, in order to generate a little extra funds. With the 60-month certificate purchased, the CD will earn about $1,000 per month.

Commissioner Jerry Williams is to head up an in-house build of a new picnic shelter at Pete Henkel Park. The structure will have concrete floors, a green metal roof and will feature a rustic design in keeping with the park's aesthetic style.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on December 6.
