Sunday, July 5, 2009 — Bud Morton, a member of the board of directors, conducted the installation of the 2009-10 Lions Club officers on June 24.
The Albemarle Lions Club’s primary goal is to serve the visually impaired in the community. The weekly meetings are held at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Albemarle.
Melanie Hatley, 2008-09 president, conducted the awards ceremony. Lion of the Year awards were presented to Jack Neel and Dr. John Herring.
Neel prepares the weekly bulletins for the members and administers the program schedule for the Club. He also assists in putting out flags and as a tailtwister, Jack entertains the club each week with his jokes.
Herring serves as membership administrator, plays the piano at club events and e-mails program pictures to members weekly. This year he presented a picture CD to each member of the club.
Neel was also awarded the Key Membership Award for bringing two new members into the club this past year.
