Thursday, March 4, 2010 — Having read several of Mr. McCluskey’s opinions, I am of the opinion that he is just a Republican wearing a “health care concern” costume, to disguise his political agenda.
The Democrats failed trying. The Republicans succeeded not trying. If one Democrat from Nebraska can influence proposed health care legislation, surely 40 Republican senators could . . . if they had wanted to.
I have never known a Republican politician that didn’t want to cut taxes. It always sounds good to voters, but cutting taxes without reducing spending is folly.
There is a reason that computers cost less and do more, it is called incentive. I see no incentive to cut costs in our health care system. Let’s not pretend we have the best health care in the world. It is good for those that can afford it, but that seems to be a shrinking number.
We need a health care commission similar to the 9/11 Commission, comprised of health care professionals, not politicians. Its purpose would be to review and present recommendations for congress to consider.
Mr. McCluskey, I am not overwhelmed by Sen. Hagan myself but I hardly expected her to solve all of our problems in a year. She is Sen. Hagan, not Ms. Hagan. She was elected to that position by the citizens of this state. I had an opportunity to visit Burr’s office in DC several years ago. The framed tobacco leaf in the office foyer told me all I needed to know about his health care position.
That small Social Security pension you mentioned was another federal government program opposed by Republicans.
Wishing you the best of health.
