Unfortunately, one of the best-kept secrets in Stanly County is the stupendous service that is rendered to the citizens of this county by the Downtown Ministers Association. They have quietly but skillfully brought this community together through Advent and Lenten services as well as their industrious work with the Stanly Community Christ-ian Ministry where they upported and spearheaded the development of the Community Table and the Community Inn for the homeless.
It is not at all uncommon for those attending the Advent and Lenten services to say how exciting it is to worship together with each other across denominational lines.
One would also be amazed at the number of people helping with the Community Table and the Community Inn.
They are across denominational lines and even without denominational preference.
In a day when we seem to be divided in American, it is a breath of fresh air to witness unity like this.
Not only have they done these things, but they have also ministered to each other in times of joy and times of crises.
Ministers are often lonely people with no one to turn to for help, because the rest of us sometimes unwisely expect them to be superhuman. They have been there for each other.
This secret has been kept because these men and women of the cloth have not called attention to themselves.
Perhaps it is time for us to call attention to them and expressed our accolades.

Applauding the commissioners
In response to the recent article by Brian Graves regarding Clean Tech, I think that our county commissioners should be commended for their stand against Clean Tech’s offering jobs in exchange for Alcoa to be relicensed to operate the hydro dams on the Yadkin-Pee Dee.

Budget tips
The government has a problem with the budget. Why? The Republicans and the Democrats blame one another. Why? Don’t they both spend the money? Foolishly.
