Jan. 13, I witnessed an extraordinary event at a fundraiser for a baby at Bob’s Family Restaurant in Midland. I think the entire community came out in support to provide a much needed medical device for this baby.
Tommy Mitsios, owner of Bob’s Family Restaurant, along with his staff, the Midland Volunteer Fire Department, family members and friends organized this event. Even though many of the volunteers had never worked in a restaurant before, the day went like clockwork to feed over 200 supporters a wonderful meal.
Thank you, Midland, for showing us how a community can come together to help one another in a time of need.
Like the mother of this baby said while wiping away her tears, “I am so grateful to my community. This is why I love living here. It is true that it takes a whole village to raise a child.”

Applauding the commissioners
In response to the recent article by Brian Graves regarding Clean Tech, I think that our county commissioners should be commended for their stand against Clean Tech’s offering jobs in exchange for Alcoa to be relicensed to operate the hydro dams on the Yadkin-Pee Dee.

Budget tips
The government has a problem with the budget. Why? The Republicans and the Democrats blame one another. Why? Don’t they both spend the money? Foolishly.
